Meet the diligent and compassionate Pet Refuge ABC Clinic team!
Dr. Kristin Tvrdik became interested in Veterinary Medicine as a teenager while working at a humane society in Chicago. She decided to apply to veterinary school in order to help fight the overpopulation of dogs and cats, and provide medical care for pets in shelters. Dr. Tvrdik graduated from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. After graduation, she began her career as a Shelter and Spay/Neuter Clinic Veterinarian in the Quad Cities. In 2014, she moved to Michiana to join the ABC Clinic team and became Medical Director in 2016. She shares her home with her boyfriend, Todd and their combined herd of 6 cats and 3 dogs.
Dr. Marie Bertman began caring for animals while volunteering at the Wisconsin Humane Society in Milwaukee during college. She received her Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin Madison School of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. Her work experience includes private practices in Chicago and Idaho, as well as being Chief of Staff for a corporate practice in Los Angeles for five years. She loves cats, dogs, internal medicine, and soft tissue surgery. Dr. Bertman and her husband have a full house with their dogs, Piper and Knuckles, and twin toddlers.
Lane is from Desoto, Indiana, and currently lives in Granger. She has been a Registered Veterinary Technician for 10 years and is a graduate of Ball State University and Harrison College. She has 2 pit bulls, Lincoln and Kaia, that keep her very busy when she is not at work. Lane is a member of The Junior League of South Bend and enjoys volunteering in the South Bend community.
Taylor recently graduated from the Vet Tech Institute in Fort Wayne and is currently working on becoming registered as a Veterinary Technician. She has been passionate about animal welfare since she was a young girl and she currently has two cats named Christine and Dracula. They enjoy cooking, reading, yoga, and spending their weekends bingeing on Netflix.
Kim is a surgery assistant and veterinary assistant. Kim has grown up around animals, and continues to surround herself with them. She started her veterinary career in high school working for a local large animal veterinarian. She attended Black Hawk College in Kewanee, IL and studied animal science. Kim has always enjoyed working with animals of all sizes! She has been a volunteer with Pet Refuge for about 3 years as a canine foster parent. Kim is thrilled to be on the Pet Refuge ABC Clinic team!
Kayleigh has always wanted to work with animals. Growing up, Kayleigh always had pets in the home she cherished. During high school, Kayleigh focused on veterinary technology. She attended Brown Mackie, where she received an Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology. She is currently studying to take her board exam to receive her registration. Kayleigh has enjoyed working in veterinary clinics for five years, two of those years being in California. She owns a total of five pets; a Beagle mix, an Australian Shepherd mix, a German Shepherd, a cat, and a sugar glider.
Ciera has lived in the Michiana area her whole life. She has worked with animals since she was young. Ciera started volunteering at animal shelters in high school. She then went to Brown Mackie College focusing her studies to be a veterinary technician. She has two cats, Rupert and Princess, a guinea pig named Tater Tot, and a dog named Leonardo.
Nichole has lived in the Michiana area her entire life. She has been interested in animals for as long as she can remember. She is continuing her studies to become a Registered Veterinary Technician. She has a German Shepherd named Winslow, two cats named Nala and Beans, and a bearded dragon.
Caley has lived in the Michiana area her whole life and currently lives in South Bend. She has been interested in animals as long as she can remember. She volunteered at Pet Refuge as a little girl and has worked with animals ever since. She has many animals at home including a Chihuahua named Taco, a Catahoula Leopard Dog, a horse, gecko, axolotl, and tree frog.
